As part of Makers Making Change’s “Hacking for the Holidays” event, come learn how digital fabrication and assistive technologies can help make toys more accessible.
During this hands-on activity, you’ll learn the basics of soldering and 3D printing to create an adapted light switch and modify a toy so that it can be used more easily by a child with a motor disability, who will receive these gifts for the holidays.
Adapted toys can typically cost several hundred dollars, whereas a comparable toy sold in stores may cost as little as about twenty dollars. By manufacturing and adapting this equipment ourselves, we can help make assistive technologies more accessible and affordable.
