Composition

  • The commission is made up of elected members, officers and citizens;
  • Members are appointed by resolution of the Municipal Council.

Officers

  • The environment division manager;
  • The environmental awareness officer;
  • A managerial employee of the public works department;
  • On request, internal and external resources can be invited to present files to the committee;
  • The environment division manager is responsible for administrative follow-up.

General mandate

  • Carry out annual mandates assigned by the planning committee;
  • Recommend to the Municipal Council the preferred environmental orientations from a sustainable development perspective, and propose priority projects;
  • Develop, recommend and monitor environmental and sustainable development action plans;
  • Propose updates to the environmental policy.

Specific mandates

  • Participation in the revision of the SEDD;
  • Urban forestry strategic and intervention plan;
  • Monitor the planting and beautification program;
  • Climate change adaptation plan including the City’s carbon footprint ;
  • Continue environmental education initiatives and reduce the use of single-use plastics.

Frequency of meetings

Meetings are held at least six times a year.

Quorum

The quorum is set at five members, including at least one elected member of the Municipal Council.
