Role of committees and commissions
The Town Council may create standing or special committees or commissions, including Council members, to study and report on specific issues. These bodies can intervene in a number of areas, such as urban planning, leisure, the environment or finance. Members are appointed by resolution of the Board, which also determines their term of office.
These committees enable the Board to entrust them with the analysis of specific subjects for study, discussion and recommendations. The planning committee, known as the CP, assigns mandates to all committees and commissions each year. The work carried out contributes to the monitoring of various aspects of municipal administration. The committees report on their activities in the form of reports, which must be adopted by the municipal council before coming into force.
In Brossard, a number of committees and commissions are active in various fields. Their mandates are presented below.
The Planning Advisory Committee carries out the annual mandates entrusted to it by the Planning Committee. It analyzes and recommends to the municipal council applications for zoning changes, subdivisions, construction and permits and certificates. It also reviews applications for minor variances, comprehensive development plans and site planning and architectural integration plans.
The Sustainable Mobility Committee carries out the annual mandates assigned by the Planning Committee. It recommends to the municipal council the steps, initiatives and measures required to ensure sound management of traffic, mobility, road safety and signage on the territory. It analyzes queries, complaints or requests submitted by elected officials, citizens or city departments.
The Retirement Committee administers the Plan and the Pension Fund in accordance with applicable regulations.
