What is travelling sales?
Itinerant sales refers to any commercial activity carried out away from its place of business, such as when a merchant goes door-to-door or sets up a temporary kiosk in a public place. In other words, it could be someone who comes directly to your home to offer you a product or service. This type of sale is strictly regulated by municipal by-laws to ensure the safety and peace of mind of citizens.
Brossard travelling sales by-law
A merchant who solicits a consumer outside his or her place of business, for example by going door-to-door, must hold a valid door-to-door sales permit, have it in his or her possession and be able to present it at all times.
In Brossard, this type of activity is authorized from Monday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
If a shopkeeper comes to your home, don’t hesitate to ask for his or her permit. You can also consult the list of authorized merchants, now available on our website.
