L'envolée des mots

L’envolée des mots is a creative writing project that took place in August and September 2018, during which Brossard’s seniors were invited to learn new things and explore their creativity.  Guided by author Francine Ruel, participants deepened their knowledge of various writing concepts and tools during lively creative workshops that focused on sharing.

The texts the seniors produced were collected and presented in an art book made by designer-bookbinder Delphine Platten. This work was unveiled on October 1, 2018, during the launch of Semaine québécoise des aînés, and is available for consultation at Brossard’s Georgette-Lepage library.

Portrait 2.0

Launched by Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi La Pinière, Portrait 2.0 is an innovative project created for its clientele of young people aged 16 to 35. Let by artist Nadia Nadège and supported by the Apple boutique and the Fab Lab, participants were invited to project themselves into their dream job by producing self-portraits using digital applications.

Between June and September 2018, participants took part in creative workshops in which they discovered various technological tools while taking part in a process that allowed them to acquire new skills and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Their creations were displayed from September 4 to 28, 2018 at the Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi La Pinière, where they were admired by nearly 350 people.

Fresque intergénérationnelle

The Fresque intergénérationnelle project brought together students with learning or integration difficulties from École Marie-Victorin and seniors with reduced autonomy from the CHSLD Centre Champlain. Together, they created a mural to brighten up the dining area of the long-term care facility.  Developed and led by artist-mediator and special educator Kathleen Egan, this project saw about 100 students and 30 seniors working together.

Participating in art workshops allowed them to break their sense of isolation, stimulate their creativity and create intergenerational links. The children were also made aware of an aging population.

The Fresque intergénérationnelle was unveiled on June 4, 2018, and continues to bring a touch of beauty to the daily lives of the residents of the CHSLD Centre Champlain.

Le temps d’une danse

On October 1, 2017, to mark National Seniors Day, which that year coincided with the Journées de la culture, the Ville de Brossard invited seniors to take part in a big intergenerational dance. This project brought together groups from various seniors’ organizations and residences in Brossard that had all attended five practice workshops with professional choreographers from the Danse Carpe Diem / Emmanuel Jouthe dance troupe. These workshops began with a seated warm-up, followed by different exercises focused on physical expression and motor skills, the exploration of space and the rudiments of theatre. Participants learned sequences of movements that resulted in the creation of an original choreography. Residents were invited to join them for the big community group dance to the rhythm of the song Guarda Come Dondolo, a hit from the ‘60s popularized by the Italian singer Edoardo Vianello.

The seniors’ organizations and residences that took part in the project are:
  • Centre Sino-Québec de la Rive-Sud
  • Club liberté 50 de Brossard
  • Joie de vivre de l’âge d’or de Brossard
  • Le Cherbourg 1 / Le Cherbourg 2
  • Résidences Soleil Manoir Brossard

Un sapin pour ma communauté

From November 20, 2017 to January 21, 2018, to celebrate the spirit of joy and of sharing that characterizes the holiday season, a collection of Christmas trees decorated with festive creations made by community organizations and their users was displayed at City Hall. The decorations had all been made during a series of creative workshops led by Brossard artist Nadia Nadège. Participants had designed and created the decorations according to the theme of their organization. This aim of this project was to create ties between participants from diverse backgrounds through artistic creation. It promoted collaboration, dialogue and the acquisition of new skills, and also instilled pride and a sense of community.

The organizations that took part in the project are:
  • Action et Intégration en Déficience Intellectuelle
  • Activités préscolaires de Brossard
  • Association des femmes d’ici et d’ailleurs
